Is this the end of Bronze Wool for window cleaning?
As you may have heard since the pandemic the super fine 0000 grade Bronze Wool Pads have been discontinued and will no longer be available.
The super fine 0000 grade is what we recommended for window cleaning as it was safe for use on glass as well as UPVC. However, it’s now time to find a new favourite, but don’t worry, there’s a great alternative (keep reading to find out more).
You may be thinking this is terrible news. We initially thought so too but on reflection, since we released the original Bronze Wool Pad Holder over six years ago, a wide variety of different scrub pads have been introduced and there are now so many options to choose from.
What can I use instead of Bronze Wool?
There are many advantages of the Bronze Wool Pads, such as being durable, re-usable, non-scratch and they didn’t rust. The good news is there are now other materials available which offer similar qualities.
Without a doubt, our favourite is the Walnut Pad which is available in the same size as the original 15 x 22 cm (6" x 9") Bronze Wool Pad.
This innovative cleaning pad is made of recycled polyester with crushed walnut shells added as a natural, non-scratch abrasive, making them safe to use on virtually any surface where scratching is a concern. The product can be used on its own and its quick and easy to cut down into smaller sizes, if you prefer. A Walnut Pad can also be fitted to the large or Mini DA Pad Holder, the Maykker Handy Sleeve and Tucker Alpha Scrubber.
Another option is Stainless Steel Scrub Pads. They are similar to Bronze Wool due to the material and that it won’t rust. Again, these pads can be used on their own or fitted to a large pad holder. They don’t wrap around the pad holder in the same way as a Walnut Pad so you will need to make sure your Pad Holder is angled true on the glass.
What do I need to be aware of?
The super fine 0000 grade Bronze Wool Pads with the white backing are now limited stock. Some suppliers may have stocks remaining but there are other courser grades of bronze wool available which are not the same. On our listings of Bronze Wool, we are very specific about the grade and what it is suitable for. It is best to double check what grade the bronze or steel wool is and always carry out a patch test on a small unnoticeable area when using any new scrub pads for the first time.
